Wellness is part of every hour! 5210 Healthy Washoe was designed to help individuals, parents, businesses and medical practitioners ensure that the healthy choice is the easy choice. If your organization is interested in implementing the 5210 Healthy Washoe program please complete this registration form.

Youth Organizations

Children spend the majority of their day at school and eat one or more meals, plus snacks, during the school day. Schools have the opportunity to provide healthier foods in the classroom and cafeteria, and to increase physical activity throughout the school day creatively. In addition to helping establish healthy habits, schools want to do what they can to make sure their students are ready and able to learn.

The 5210 program is flexible and can be easily woven into your busy day. We support the schools, child care centers, and out-of-school time programs by partnering with teachers, nurses, PE teachers, nutrition directors, cafeteria managers, principals, and more. We’ll help you assess what you’re already doing well, identify areas for improvement, and implement an action plan to meet your unique goals. We are here to help you develop healthier students. They perform better academically and have better behavior in the classroom.

Lastly, as part of our evaluation and commitment to continuous improvement, we provide schools and youth organizations an opportunity to be recognized. This recognition highlights a school and organization’s commitment to helping children establish healthy habits at a young age through the 5210 messages. By getting involved with 5210 Healthy Washoe you’ll join a network of sites just like yours, working to improve the health of our children.

Registered sites in Washoe County receive a free hard-copy toolkit. For all others, a free online version is available below.

Health Care Organizations

5210 Healthy Washoe works with pediatric and family practices in Washoe County. Children and parents alike look to their healthcare providers for trusted health advice, and hearing the 5-2-1-0 message at their doctor’s office reinforces the healthy habits children are learning in child care and school or at out-of-school programs.

The 5210 programs can be easily woven into a practice’s busy day. We provide everything you need to get started including a brief training for the entire staff.

Once you become a registered site, you’ll have access to a free toolkit full of resources for staff and families, training by a physician champion, and technical assistance from a trained coordinator. By getting involved with 5210 Healthy Washoe you’ll join a network of organizations just like yours, working to improve the health of our children.

Businesses

The 5210 Healthy Washoe program for employers was adapted from the Let’s Go! Small Steps program to help adults lead healthier lives. Worksite can now partner with 5210 Healthy Washoe to create a healthy workplace. If you’re interested in creating a healthier worksite contact us. We’ll introduce you to the program, and you’ll learn how to hold healthy meetings, celebrate a job well done using something other than food, and help staff is more active during the day while still getting their work done.

Anyone can take part in and benefit from a few Small Steps:

  1. Move more – it’s a great way to improve your health
  2. Eat Real – foods that come from nature give you energy
  3. Drink Water – it’s the best choice
  4. Rest Up – good sleep restores your body and mind

5210 Healthy Washoe works with employers and healthcare practices to help them create environments where the healthy choice is the easy choice. When it comes to your health, small steps go far.

Lastly, as part of our evaluation and commitment to continuous improvement, we provide employers an opportunity to be recognized. This recognition highlights employers’ commitment to helping employees establish healthy habits through the 5210 message.
