Independent Living

Washoe County Human Services Agency Independent Living Program Unit specializes in working with youth ages 14-18 years of age who are in the foster care system.  By providing individualized case plans and services, we strive to prepare each youth for independence. Teaching skills such as: shopping on a budget, cooking, banking, general maintenance of a home, how to develop critical thinking skills, and how to access community resources, we help prepare youth for successful futures.

In collaboration with the Children`s Cabinet, we also offer services to young adults ages 18-21 who have aged out of foster care by providing ongoing support and financial assistance. If you are a teen in need of assistance or know a teen who needs assistance please contact Cynthia Carstairs at 775.348-6749.
