Sabrina Brasuell is the Washoe County Mitigation Program Coordinator. She works at the Regional Emergency Operations Center (REOC) at 5195 Spectrum Blvd, Reno, NV.
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Sabrina transferred from San Jose State University to the University of Nevada, Reno to complete her undergrad degree. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Nevada, Reno. Sabrina has worked in many fields that all focused on safety and compliance, whether in private industry or government. Her experiences range from Veterinarian Medical Technician to Microbiologist to Health Information Management and Compliance to Emergency Medical Systems Coordinator. This varied career background helps Sabrina approach tasks with many different perspectives and considerations. Sabrina joined our program as the Mitigation Program Coordinator in October of 2023.
Sabrina is responsible for mitigation coordination in the region. Mitigation efforts lessen the impact of disasters and emergencies which in turn, reduce the loss of life and property. This reduction is achieved in a variety of ways such as maintenance of roadways, relocation or retrofitting of structures, training and equipping employees, community education and engagement, and continual training and practice for emergencies. Sabrina’s primary focus is the regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan is updated every five years and serves as a guidebook for all regional mitigation actions. Sabrina assists in bringing the mitigation action items into reality by connecting needs and resources together. Sabrina is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).
When Sabrina is not working, she can be found snowboarding in the Lake Tahoe area – especially on powder days! The rest of the year she is never far from a lake, ocean, or ice hockey rink.
