Join us on September 15th for the second annual Washoe County Childhood Obesity Forum. In addition to new childhood BMI data, (including data from pre-school and college-age youth) presenters will discuss national recommendations for childhood obesity prevention and talk about local community and school-based programs addressing this growing epidemic.
After years of declines, Washoe County’s smoking rate rose 2.5% in a single year. According to the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a national telephone survey funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 21% of Washoe County adults reported being smokers in 2009.
On September 25, 2010, the Washoe County Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) in cooperation with Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) , the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Attorney General, the FBI, the DEA and a host of other agencies and organizations, are hosting the second annual Prescription Drug Round-up. The community is urged to round-up any expired or unused prescription medications and dispose of them at this event.
