Volunteer Position Descriptions

Manager

The polling place Manager has the responsibility of overseeing the Election Day operations at an assigned polling place. This includes manager and working with poll workers assigned to the polling place, coordination of site access, picking up supplies, setting up equipment, assisting and processing voters, completing the closing procedures, and transporting the results and supplies to the Registrar of Voters office on Election Night.

Hours are from 6:00 a.m. until supplies and equipment are turned in at the Registrar of Voters Office, which is approximately no later than 10:00 p.m. The stipend for serving as a polling place Manager is $25 for attending training and $110 for serving on Election Day. (Total of $135)

  • Management of polling place operations
  • Responsible for set-up of polling place on Election Eve
  • Opening, set-up and closing of polls on Election Day
  • Oversees operation and troubleshooting on Edge touch-screen and replaces paper on the VVPAT (Verified Voter Paper Audit Trail)
  • Crowd control and crowd flow management
  • Makes assignments at polling place when there are “No-Shows”
  • Oversees all pre-election testing and post-election accountability procedures
  • Assists disable voters and others needing help
  • Closes Edges and records final voting data at end of Election Day. Extracts, seals and returns result cartridges, VVPAT tapes, completed forms, Manager’s Verification Statement, Roster and label booklets, facility keys (if issued), and payroll sheets
  • Fills-in at Roster Specialist and In-Take Specialist position for breaks and lunch breaks and assigns other poll workers to do the same
  • Resolves voter issues while using the Edge voting system
  • Reports Voter turnout twice a day
  • Returns assigned supplies to the Registrar of Voters Office at the end of Election Day

Assistant Manager

The polling place Assistant Manager has the responsibility to assist the Manager in the polling place operations. This includes setting up equipment and supplies, assisting and processing voters, and assisting in the closing procedures.

Hours are from 6:00 a.m. until supplies and equipment are turned in at the Registrar of Voters Office, which is approximately no later than 10:00 p.m. The stipend for serving as a polling place Assistant Manager is $25 for attending training and $100 for serving on Election Day. (Total of $125)

  • Assists the Manager in overseeing the operation of the polling place
  • Participates in Election Eve set-up
  • Must be able to do all functions of the polling place Manager and any other positions at assigned polling place, to include In-Take Specialist and Roster Specialist
  • Fills-in at positions in the Polling Place as required for breaks
  • Issues and receives provisional ballots
  • Accompanies the polling place Manager in returning “Critical Supplies” at the end of Election Day

Intake Specialist

  • Accessing Voter Registration Data on laptop computer by scanning Voter’s ID Bar Code on Sample Ballot or Voter Registration Card or entering Voter’s Name and DOB manually
  • Determining if Voter is (1) eligible and (2) in assigned polling place
  • Issuance of required forms, answering voter questions and directing Voters to the correct Roster Specialist Station
  • Required to print voter activity list four times during Election Day
  • At the end of Election Day assist with comparing and balancing voter counts against the number of signatures in the Roster and complete the prescribed steps for closing the polls
  • Helps Manager and Assistant Manager with set-up of the polling place and packing of supplies end of election night

Roster Specialist

  • Controls use of roster book regarding voter signatures and proper identification of voters
  • Activates voter cards for use on Edge
  • Oversees smooth operation and ensure correct use of roster, activator and hand-held scanner
  • Charged with final authority regarding issues of voter identifications and determination of voter eligibility
  • Issues appropriate forms and documents as needed
  • Completes the Precinct Official Ballot Statement for each precinct under his/her authority
  • Helps Manager and Assistant Manager with set-up of the polling place and packing of supplies at end of election night
