Definition of an Inactive Voter
A voter’s registration record will be inactive as a result of non-valid address being identified during ongoing registration activities. If a voter believes that they were inactivated in error, they should verify their registration information either online or by contacting our office.
If the Postal Service notifies the Registrar of Voters office that the voter has moved from the address at which he/she registered, the voter is sent a forwardable postcard asking the voter to update his/her address. If the voter does not respond within 30 days, he/she is place on “inactive” status. The voter is still eligible to vote (if he/she still lives in Washoe County), but the address on file is not correct; and the Registrar of Voters office will no longer send election related materials to that voter.
In accordance with requirements and procedures of the “National Voter Registration Act of 1993” and “NRS 293.530” is the guidelines Washoe County Registrar of Voters office follows.
