Pay Your Citation:

There are multiple ways to pay your citation.

At the Court

  • Payments will be accepted until 4 p.m. with a clerk
  • Payments may be made in the form of cash, personal check, cashier's check, money order or by credit card 
  • A credit card payment will have a 3.5% service fee imposed
  • Personal checks will not be accepted on cases with an active warrant
  • Please have the citation number and the name of the person cited available for accurate processing of payment

Online

  • Payments are accepted 24 hours a day when made online at justicecourts.washoecounty.us
  • Payments made online will have a $5 processing fee imposed
  • Cases with an active warrant will not allow payments to be made online
  • Please have the citation number and the name of the person cited available for accurate processing of payment online

By Mail

  • Payment made by mail will need to be in the form of personal check, cashier's check or money order
  • Personal checks will not be accepted on cases with an active warrant
  • If you wish to have a receipt mailed to you, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope with payment
  • Please include the citation number and/or name of the person cited on the payment

Drop Box

  • The drop box is located at the northeast corner of the building for payments made after payment hours
  • The court does not recommend leaving cash in the drop box
  • Please include the citation number and/or name of the person cited on the payment
  • If you wish to have a receipt mailed to you, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope with payment

Western Union

  • Visit any Western Union Agent location and fill out the Blue Quick Collect Send form
  • Make sure to inlcude the following information
    • Pay to:  Sparks Justice Court
    • Code City:  SPKJC
    • State:  NV
    • Citation Number
  • Send a money transfer to the court via Western Union
    • By phone:  1.800.634.3422
  • All payment options for Western Union are subject to the service terms and conditions inlcuding different fees, send amounts, and other restrictions in certain states

Appearing in Court

When you receive your citation, a court date and time will be provided to you by the citing agency.  If your citation is marked "Court Mandatory" you will need to appear on the date and time provided on your citation.  The court requires certain offenses to have a mandatory appearance.  Please contact the court to make sure you are not required to appear.

Citation court is held every Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.  Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. and is required prior to entering the court room.  If the court session has started prior to your check-in, you will be given a continuance for the following Wednesday date.  A second missed arraignment date will require a $25 extension fee to be paid at the time of the request.

Request a Continuance

A request for a continuance will not be given over the phone.  You must appear in person, submit a request in writing via email to the address above or by fax at 775.352.3004.  It is your responsibiltiy to follow-up with the court regarding your request to ensure the continuance has been granted.

A $10 extension fee will be imposed for the first extension requested on sentencing conditions and will need to be paid at the time of the request.  A $25 extension fee will be imposed on the second and each subsequent request on sentencing conditions.  Sentencing conditions include but are not limited to: payment of fines and fees; providing proof(s); completion of classes; etc.

Traffic School

For a complete list of traffic schools that will be accepted by the Sparks Justice Court, please refer to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles website at dmvnv.com.

If you were cited for a violation that carries more than one (1) demerit against your license, and you qualify with the requirements below, you may be eligible to take traffic school.

  • You were not involved in an accident
  • You have not taken traffic school within the last twelve (12) months
  • Your citation does not require a mandatory appearance whether court required or officer required

If you were cited for Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, Careless Driving or Hit and Run, you will need to appear and request traffic school with the judge to see if you are eligible.

Traffic School Motion

There are three ways to request traffic school at the Sparks Justice Court to avoid having the cited demerit points reported to the DMV:

  • Appear at the court and fill out the Traffic School Request form before your scheduled arraignment date and pay the fines and fees assessed
  • Mail in the Traffic School Request to the court before your scheduled arraignment date along with fines and fees assessed
  • Appear at the court on your scheduled arraignment date and request traffic school with the judge

Please contact the court for the correct fines and fees to be imposed.

Resolving a Citation Warrant

To resolve a warrant for a citation, you may choose from the three following options:

  1. Turn yourself in to the Washoe County Jail at 911 Parr Blvd. (Hearing will be set within 48 hours);
  2. Go to the Court Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed for lunch from noon to 1:15 p.m. or Friday from 7:45 a.m. to noon.  Check in with a clerk and ask to appear before a judge;
  3. Post the bail in person at the Court and ask to set a court date.

A clearance letter for DMV will not be released to you unless the warrant is resolved.
