Community Health Nurse:

Washoe County Social Services community nurse provides seniors with education on health and wellness focusing on disease prevention.   Blood pressure clinics and health education are offered at many of the Washoe County Senior Services congregate meal sites; please refer to the Activity Calendars for dates, times and locations.

Library:

A branch of the Washoe County Library is located at Washoe County Senior Services.  Books, books on tape, newspapers, periodicals, and various reference materials are available, along with issuance of library cards, Internet access on several computers, and inter-branch search/loan.  The library is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  For more information call 775.328.2586.


Senior Law Project of Nevada Legal Services :

The Senior Law Project provides legal assistance with the following legal matters:

  • Government benefits including Medicare, Medicaid and other health related issues
  • Lifetime planning legal issues such as living wills, homesteads
  • Consumer issues such as enforcement of state and federal consumer laws related to debt collection, fraud, credit access and matters concerning utility service
  • Real property and housing issues including loss of subsidized housing, fair housing rights violations, and some evictions

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP):

SHIP provides information, counseling and assistance to Medicare Beneficiaries in Nevada involving a statewide network of volunteers.

SHIP Volunteers offer FREE one-on-one assistance and counseling with respect to many problems seniors encounter regarding Medicare, supplemental health insurance and long-term care options.

Washoe Legal Services

Washoe Legal Services represents adult wards in guardianship cases. 

Financial statements, medical reports and other documents require a thorough review to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of the guardian’s expenditures on behalf of the client, the appropriateness of the Guardianship and medical care.  Occasionally contested hearings are held in which WLS provides representation for the Ward to make sure the Ward’s wishes are effectively communicated to the Court.  In guardian Ad Litem cases, the attorney is charged with acting in the best interests of the client.
