The Senior Nutrition Programs:
Congregate Meal Program: Have lunch in a group setting; socialize with other participants while enjoying a healthy meal. The program provides one meal per day to seniors 60+ and qualified individuals (spouse of a senior, disabled living at a nutrition site (and eating at that site), or disabled person dependent on a senior). A hot meal or fresh salad is provided Monday through Friday at ten senior meal locations. Monthly menus are available online (January, February, March) or at each meal site location. With the exception of the Washoe County Senior Center, reservations must be made by 8:30 AM on the desired day. Individuals wishing to enjoy a fresh salad in place of a hot meal are required to sign up in person or by phone at the desired meal location by 8:30 AM that day.
The suggested voluntary contribution is $2 per meal. The Older Americans Act provides funding for this program, requiring anyone under 60 (and not meeting the qualifications above) who wishes to eat at any of the sites be charged $4 per meal.
Home Delivered Meals: Provides delivery of meals to homebound seniors 60+ who are unable to participate in the Washoe County Senior Services Congregate Meal program due to an illness or a disability, whether temporary or permanent. Meals provided are in accordance with established dietary guidelines and food safety standards. The suggested voluntary contribution is $2 per meal. Self addressed stamped envelopes are provided by the meal delivery drivers for contributions to be mailed directly to Washoe County Senior Services. Delivery includes one hot and up to six frozen meals per week. There is also the option to receive a second delivery of meals weekly (on a different day).
