Reno Justice Court

If you receive a moving violation and are cited into the Reno Justice Court, you may qualify to attend traffic school to avoid having demerit points reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles based upon the following criteria.

• Your citation was issued for a violation in which the associated demerit points are 4 or less.
• Your citation was issued for only 1 moving violation in which the associated demerit points are 4 or less.
• Your citation does not involve an accident.
• You have not been convicted of a moving violation within the past year.
• You have not attended traffic school within the past year.

To request approval to attend traffic school, you can make your request with one of the following options:

• Appear at the Reno Justice Court and complete the Traffic School Motion and make payment of the total amount due as stated on your citation on or before your arraignment date. (if you do not wish to appear before a Judge);
• Complete the Traffic School Motion and mail (mailing address) the completed and signed form to the Reno Justice Court along with payment of the total amount due, as stated on your citation, on or before your arraignment date. Notification that your request has been granted or denied will be returned by mail. If granted, the notification will outline specific instructions and a due date.(if you do not wish to appear before a Judge);
• Complete the Traffic School Motion and email the form. To email, be sure to complete all required fields, and attach/submit to RJCCitations@washoecounty.gov. Notification that your motion has been granted or denied will be returned by email. The notification will indicate specific instructions with a due date for the total amount due, as stated on your citation, and, if granted, a due date for the traffic school certificate. (if you do not wish to appear before a Judge)
