Have you ever wondered how plants survive in a high desert environment?  Join us on our Journey through the Great Basin as we explore the world of Native Pants, Conifers, and how water is fundamental to their survival in a high desert environment. We will discover native plant communities in our Native Area, and the mystery of Conifers in David’s Grove.  With our 3D watershed models students will investigate the causes of non-point source pollution, and learn how water moves through the environment with an interactive activity.   At the May Arboretum, we strive to educate students on how plants survive in the Great Basin and what they can do to help.  Contact the Arboretum Educator today to schedule your next outdoor classroom!

Can you learn about science from observing a painting?  Now more than ever, art is being incorporated into science instruction to better connect students with new concepts.  Here at the May Arboretum we want students to not only explore our gardens through sensory experiences, but to gain an appreciation for our native plant communities.  Sage “Brushed” explores the themes of biodiversity, climate, location, and plant adaptations in the Great Basin.  Through garden explorations and landscape paintings by Hans Meyer-Kassel, we will explore the plant communities that call our region home.  Join us on this new exciting field trip as we explore the Sage “Brushed”!
