Story Time in the Arboretum
The Wilbur D. May Arboretum and the Washoe County Library System are happy to announce Story Time in the Arboretum! Bring your family every Tuesday this summer from 10am-11am in Honey’s Garden. Join Washoe County Librarians while they read a nature themed story! After the story, stay in gardens to explore or join in on a fun activity! While you are here you can sign up for a library card or the summer reading program. We hope to see you this summer!
Join us these dates: June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, and August 1. Note there will be NO Story Time on July 4th.
The Arboretum is located with Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Honey’s Garden is located down the path from our South Entrance.
A Night in the Arboretum
Have you ever wondered what the Arboretum is like at night? Well wonder no more! Join the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden, and the Astronomical Society of Nevada for a star party on July 29th from 8:30pm-10pm. Follow the stars onto the lawn in front of Rancho San Rafael Park’s ranger office where telescopes will be pointed at the night sky. Come to the gardens at 8:30 pm to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21st (eclipse viewers will be available with a $2 donation). Star and planet gazing will begin at 9pm. Get a close up view of Saturn and its rings, and learn about the constellations we see in our night sky! This program will be during the peak of the Delta Aquariid meteor shower so we might even see a few shooting stars! Bring a blanket to lie out on the lawn, a red light flashlight to navigate your way around, and your curiosity of the night sky!
