Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks has announced that at defendant convicted on sexual assault charges has been sentenced to consecutive life terms in prison. Christopher Alan Cagle, 28, pled guilty in January to two counts of Sexual Assault and was sentenced last week in District Court to two consecutive terms of life in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 20 years has been served.

The case against Cagle began on October 19, 2017 when the Reno Police Department (RPD) responded to a report of a sexual assault in the Stead area. When RPD patrol officers arrived, they met with a female victim and her young children. According to the victim, she was alone in her home with her children when she was violently attacked and sexually assaulted by a masked intruder. The attacker threatened to harm the victim and her young children if the victim did not quiet the children, who were aware of the attacker’s presence and were crying and screaming in a nearby bedroom. The subsequent investigation determined that Cagle had entered the home knowing that children would be present. Once inside, Cagle attacked the victim, tying her up and sexually assaulting her multiple times before fleeing. Once Cagle was gone, the victim was able to untie herself with the help of one of her children and call for help. Additional investigation also determined that Cagle was known to the victim.

At sentencing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Luke Prengaman argued Cagle’s commission of the crimes with children present in the home and aware of the attack on their mother was an aggravating circumstance deserving of consecutive life sentences.
