Washoe County Library System is proud to have been selected as one of fourteen national library sites to host Explore Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference, a traveling exhibition for libraries, which is part of the STAR Library Education Network (STAR_Net) led by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute (SSI). Exhibit partners include the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI), and the Afterschool Alliance. This exhibit was made possible through the support of a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The Northwest Reno Library branch will host the exhibit from November 8, 2018 through January 11, 2019. This traveling exhibit features hands-on activities for all ages and interactive multimedia displays. The exhibit includes three modules: A. Engineering: Past, Present, and Future; B. High Tech/Low tech; and C. Power Up! Creating a Sustainable Energy Future. Learn how engineering affects our everyday lives and can help us prepare for an exciting, sustainable future! Children and adults alike will enjoy exploring technology through interactive displays, engineering challenges and a maker table encouraging imaginative play.
This exhibit shows how engineering provides solutions to better meet human needs and develops sustainable innovations for the future, and how engineers create new technologies to solve problems. It features hands-on and multimedia components that allow exhibit visitors to interact with exhibit content in a dynamic way, encouraging new perspectives about engineers and their vital work.
A Grand Opening Reception is planned for Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm at the Northwest Reno Library located at 2325 Robb Drive in Reno. Attendees will hear from guest speakers and get a first look at exhibit, and sample hands on STEAM activities. During the exhibit period, the Northwest Reno Library and other Washoe County Library locations will host STEAM programs for adults, teens and children.
