Reno, Nev. October 3, 2018. Tom Selleck, Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) and La Toya Jackson may have all been wed in Washoe County, but now getting a copy of a marriage certificate isn’t just for celebrities. The Washoe County Recorder’s Office is excited to announce the launch of an application that allows anyone to obtain a copy of a marriage certificate on-demand with a new online service.
“Innovation and convenience are a couple of things we strive to provide our community here at the Recorder’s Office,” says Donald LaQue, Washoe County Chief Deputy Recorder. “Being able to offer this new service will allow anyone who was married in Washoe County to obtain a certified copy on demand, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The Recorder’s Office has offered the ability to search, view and print online real estate records since 2006 and the ability to offer marriage certificates online has been in the works since 2014. Through the use of Tyler Technologies, the recording system vendor, and a secure third-party credit card processing provider, the Recorder’s Office is now able to offer this new service online, anytime.
With millions of marriage certificates in the custodial care of the Washoe County Recorder’s Office, these documents can be requested for a variety of reasons, either for insurance purposes, deaths, name changes or family mementos. The new technology even allows the public to order ahead online and pick up at the Recorder’s Office.
“We love the fact that we are simplifying the process,” says LaQue. “It saves our taxpayers time and money, and puts them in control.”
