Kate photoReno, Nev. July 10, 2017. The Washoe County Manager’s Office experienced a bittersweet day as they were elated to welcome new Assistant County Manager (ACM) Kate Thomas (pictured left), and saddened to say ‘goodbye’ to departing ACM, Kevin Schiller.

After a 20-year career in public service with Washoe County, Schiller marked his official last day on July 10, leaving his position as Washoe County ACM to serve as ACM for Clark County. Schiller was responsible for the creation of innovative programs such as The Crossroads Program, Sober 24 and many other process improvements in key department areas.

“Kevin Schiller is a power-lifter; every single thing this Commission has asked him to do he has done, and done well” said Commissioner Vaughn Hartung. “We know he will make a huge difference; some of the programs he initiated here in Washoe County have become models nationwide.  We look forward to seeing what’s next on the horizon for Mr. Schiller,” remarked Hartung, as Washoe County Commissioners recognized Schiller publicly during a Board of Commissioners meeting earlier this month. “Kevin Schiller is everything that Washoe County stands for” remarked Washoe County Manager, John Slaughter.

While best wishes for Schiller were heartfelt, simultaneously Washoe County is filled with excitement as they welcome their new Assistant County Manager, Kate Thomas. Most recently serving as Assistant City Manager with the City of Reno, Thomas also served as Deputy Secretary of State from 2007-2011 and has held various other positions in municipal government. “She brings a long-standing history of excellence serving our region and we couldn’t be happier to have her on the team” says Slaughter. Kate Thomas begins her new role on July 10, 2017.
