Washoe County Library System kicks off Summer Reading on June 1. Sign up today and start enjoying the library’s many reading opportunities, fun interactive programs, and other activities to keep children and adults engaged with reading during summer.
Summer is a great time to build, create, have fun with friends, and let your imagination take off – all great reasons to celebrate this year’s theme, Build a Better World. Washoe County Library System has a variety of educational and recreational resources for all ages to help you learn, grow, connect, and create.
The Summer Reading Program runs from June 1 through August 31 and is focused on helping children avoid the “summer slide” by building and maintaining reading and language skills, motivating teens to read and discuss literature, and encouraging adults to experience the joy of recreational reading. Summer Reading Programs are great for all ages!
This year, Washoe County Library System is partnering with the Reno Aces to offer “Library Night” at the ballpark on August 21, 2017, and one of our lucky young program participants will have the opportunity to throw the first pitch of the game!
Libraries play a key role in their communities, disseminating early literacy information and training. Washoe County Library System Director Jeff Scott states, “Libraries make a major contribution to children’s path to reading, through both books and technology, and the Summer Reading Program is one way we help to promote early literacy in our community.”
According to Scott, “Washoe County Library System is pleased to be able to partner with the Reno Aces to offer such a wonderful Summer Reading Program prize. Children can earn free books with the emphasis on building readers and lifelong library users through meaningful, fun experiences at your local library.”
