Contacting your detained child

Covid-19 Visitation and Phone Calls

Updated 5-15-20

Under the current COVID-19 precautions, all in-person visitation at Wittenberg Hall has been suspended. In the interim, Wittenberg Hall is offering Zoom video calls to allow juveniles to have face to face interaction with their parents/guardians. To set up a Zoom visit with your detained child, please contact your assigned Probation Officer.

Additionally, all juveniles will receive free phone calls to their parents/guardians every other day during these restrictions to continue to support regular contact.

If your child has been detained, you may communicate with him/her in one of three ways:

Phone Calls:  All phone calls from detention are collect and must be accepted by the receiving party for a call to be completed. Please be aware some phone services do not allow collect calls. If your phone service does not accept collect calls, you will need to contact our phone service provider at 1-888-729-4326 to set up an account. All collect calls are charged to the receiving party. Calls are allowed daily. While detained, every juvenile has the opportunity to earn special privileges based on outstanding behavior. One of these privileges is a daily phone call at no cost to the receiving party. You may also visit legacyinmate.com. A communications app is available for both Android and Apple phones.

Mailed Letters:  Only postcards, no larger than 5x7 will be accepted. All postcards must be mailed through the post office, addressed to the juvenile at the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center P.O. Box 11130, Reno, NV 89520 and must include a complete return address, including the sender's first and last names. All postcards are reviewed for contraband items and inappropriate content. Letters received from other probationers or other institutions may be rejected. Letter writing will take place during designated times. Mail is distributed once daily, Monday through Friday.

Visitation:  You must be a Parent/Guardian, Step-parent and/or Grandparent to visit. You must have a photo ID. Children under the age of 18 are not allowed. You must call 325-7800, Monday thru Friday, 8 to 5 pm, to make an appointment 24 hours in advance.  Special visits for anyone not specified above must obtain permission from the juvenile's Probation Officer AND the Detention Manager prior to scheduling. Detained juveniles are allowed one visit every other day, Monday thru Sunday (including holidays). Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit. Visits begin exactly at the scheduled time, late arrivals (even only 1-2 minutes) may be turned away.  Please be aware that you may not bring any items into the visit with you including purses, wallets, etc. Lockers are provided if needed.
