Farm-to-Fork Events and Cottage Food Operations

Farm-to-Fork Events

A "farm-to-fork," as defined by Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 446; Assembly Bill 200, allows farms to hold farm-to-fork events in certain circumstances without being considered a food establishment for purposes of inspections by the health authority.

In Washoe County, such farms are required to register with the local health authority. Both forms: Farm-To-Fork Registration and Permit to Operate Application must be submitted to the Washoe County Health District (WCHD). Once approved, the WCHD will provide a letter verifying approval. For more information please refer to the Farm to Fork Event Fact Sheet and Food Safety Guidelines or contact the WCHD at 328-2434.

Cottage Food Operations

A "cottage food operation," as defined by Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 446; Senate Bill 206, means a natural person who manufactures or prepares food items in a non-food establishment setting for sale to a natural person.

In Washoe County, such operations are required to register with the Washoe County Health District (WCHD). Both forms: Cottage Food Operation Registration and Permit to Operate Application must be submitted to the WCHD. Once approved, the WCHD will provide a letter verifying approval. For more information, please see the Cottage Food Fact Sheet and Food Safety Guidelines or contact the WCHD at 328-2434.
