On November 5, 2014 Nancy Parent was elected Washoe County Clerk and began serving her first elected term on January 5, 2015. Ms. Parent had previously been appointed County Clerk in July of 2013 by the Washoe County Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of retiring County Clerk Amy Harvey.
Nancy began her career at the Washoe County Clerk’s Office in October of 2000 when she was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy by County Clerk Amy Harvey. As Chief Deputy Ms. Parent oversaw and managed all aspects and operations of the Clerk’s Office on a daily basis.
Ms. Parent has represented the office and participated in nine (9) sessions of the Nevada Legislature on County Clerk issues, representing the Washoe County Clerk, the Nevada Association of County Clerks and the County Fiscal Officers Association.
Prior to her public service career, Nancy spent 22 years in the legal field as a legal assistant for local attorneys. Ms. Parent also spent several years as an escrow assistant at First American Title.
Ms. Parent is a member of the County Fiscal Officers Association (CFOA) and serves on its Board of Directors and Legislative Committee. Nancy is also a member of the Nevada Association of County Clerks and Election Officials and was elected to serve as the group’s President in 2015. As President, Ms. Parent sits as an Associate Member with the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO). In 2015 Ms. Parent was honored to be appointed to the State Historical Records Advisory Board by Governor Sandoval. Additionally Ms. Parent has served on the Board of Directors of her neighborhood Homeowner’s Association.
Nancy has organized and promoted the Washoe County Employees charity drive for the past five years benefiting organizations such as the Evelyn Mount Food Drive, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and Veteran’s Guest House. Over the years she has supported the Boys & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows, Veteran’s Guest House, Salvation Army Adopt a Family, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and numerous other organizations.
Ms. Parent has been a proud resident of Washoe County for over 40 years. She has two grown sons, Matt and Mark, who are beginning to expand their families to include a wife and long-term girlfriend, grandchildren and numerous grand dogs. As a single mother, she was dedicated to supporting the boys’ efforts in soccer, baseball, golf and raising game birds and water fowl. The family unit is rounded out by Nancy’s ever-present collection of rescue dogs - currently Hunky, Oreo and Bear. Nancy has also been known to foster dogs while searching for their forever homes. She loves to tap dance, cook and work in her yard, as well as to enjoy a variety of music, art and books.
