Fall 2019 Newsletter - District 3

Welcome from Commissioner Kitty Jung:

Welcome to the first issue of Commissioner Connections. I am proud to bring you timely news and information pertaining to programs and initiatives in District 3.

I also have some exciting news to share with you. On September 10, the Board of County Commissioners selected Eric Brown as the next Washoe County Manager. Mr. Brown is an innovative organizational leader with a diverse set of skills and experience who will begin on November 25. I am confident that he will take our County organization to the next level. Take a moment to read more about our new County Manager in the article below.

Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. I hope you and your loved ones have the opportunity to explore all that we have to offer in Washoe County during the fall, and attend some or the autumn festivals and pumpkin patches throughout our region.

This time of the year, safety is on my mind. Now is the time to take care of your home and property in an effort to reduce the fire risk and create defensible space. We recommend creating a buffer or clear space around your property free of dry grasses, leaves, and dead vegetation. Use the opportunity to remove trash and unnecessary debris that can catch fire. Make the clear space as large as possible - at least 30 feet if your property warrants it. This will go a long way to keeping your home safe from a wildfire. It also keeps our firefighters safe while fighting a fire.

Also, make sure home addresses are clearly visible. We have had some reports of first responders being unable to identify a home where a resident has reported an emergency. Ensure trees and bushes are not blocking the address. It is a good idea to use reflective numbers that are easier to spot at night. A mailbox in front of your home also provides an opportunity to clearly post your address.

Thanks for reading. Stay safe and happy autumn.

Sincerely,
Kitty Jung
Washoe County Commission
