Washoe County Department of Water Resources
Wellhead Protection Program
Much of the water we use every day comes from groundwater wells operated by the Washoe County Department of Water Resources (DWR). Wellhead Protection Programs (WHPPs) help ensure the safety of your drinking water by protecting underground aquifers from contamination.
DWR is collaborating with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) on a new customer education campaign to increase water quality awareness, particularly among businesses located near municipal wells. A public forum will be held on the evenings of September 24 and October 1, for more details please click on the 'public forum' link.
The WHPPs developed by DWR meet or exceed all State and Federal requirements and are specific to your region. For more information about Well Head Protection in your community or to learn how you can help protect the groundwater, contact DWR at (775) 954-4730.
