What is the Department of Water Resources?

The Washoe County Department of Water Resources (DWR) is known as the “water place” because we are the region's leader in providing integrated water resource services, solving water resource problems throughout the community. DWR provides integrated water resource services for water supply, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water, groundwater remediation and water resource planning. DWR is the only entity in the State of Nevada that combines these important water resource services. Combining these functions into one entity provides wise management of the region’s scarce water resources for the benefit of utility customers, the environment and the area’s quality of life.

DWR is responsible for the planning and operation of the Central Truckee Meadows Remediation District (CTMRD) and also provides staff support for the Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission (NNWPC) and the South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District (STMGID).  DWR is a member agency of the Western Regional Water Commission (WRWC).  NNWPC and WRWC are regional water planning entities in Washoe County created by Chapter 531, Statutes of Nevada effective April 1, 2008.
