Reason for seeking position:

With over two decades of dedication to public schools, I began my journey in education as a history and government teacher, where I passionately nurtured critical thinking and leadership among students. My commitment to enhancing educational practices led me to the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the Washoe County School District (WCSD), where I developed innovative curricula and spearheaded teacher training in social studies, disciplinary literacy, and teacher leadership. I was also honored to teach future educators for eight years at the University of Nevada, Reno. My passion for civic education drove me to found several local nonprofits, including the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement, aiming to profoundly impact civic education across our state with programs like We the People and History Day. Today, I proudly lead Doral Academy, a distinguished five-star charter school in Reno, where I am committed to maintaining exemplary educational standards and fostering an environment where every student thrives. In 2022, Governor Joe Lombardo appointed me to the Nevada State Board of Education. In this role, I fervently advocate for educational reforms and the equitable distribution of resources, ensuring that every student in Nevada has access to a top-tier education. My extensive background in both classroom teaching and educational leadership and policy, coupled with my relentless drive to question and challenge the status quo, uniquely positions me to instigate substantial transformations on the State Board of Education.
My platform is focused on ensuring that Northern Nevada receives the recognition and resources it deserves. I am committed to representing the ten northern Nevada counties with a dedicated and steadfast voice on the board. I will advocate to improve our schools and support every child in Nevada in achieving their full potential. This dedication is not just a professional obligation—it's a deep commitment to our community and the future of our children.
