The primary function of this department is to bill, collect and apportion real estate taxes, personal property taxes, special assessments and to collect county utilities. All County revenues filter through this office and are accounted for daily. The Treasurer invests all available monies and insures appropriate cash flow to accommodate apportionments and appropriated expenditures.
Tax Collection
Tax rates are set in June of each year. Tax bills are prepared and mailed out by August 1st of each year. Property taxes are due on the third Monday in August. However, the property owner may elect to pay in installments if the taxes on a parcel exceed $100. The installment due dates for fiscal year 2009-2010 tax year are:
Installment Due Date Last Day to Pay
Without Penalty
1st Installment Monday, August 17, 2009 August 27, 2009
2nd Installment Monday, October 5, 2009 October 15, 2009
3rd Installment Monday, January 4, 2010 January 14, 2010
4th Installment Monday, March 1, 2010 March 11, 2010Please note that these are not quarterly payments. The Nevada Legislature has established these four due dates. Applicable penalties will be charged for delinquent payments per NRS 361.483.
Some accounts are billed in one installment only. The due dates for those accounts can be found on each individual account information screen.Tax bills are only mailed once a year.
If you purchase real property during the tax year, you are responsible for any taxes not paid as of the close of escrow. When a taxpayer acquires a new home, pays off a mortgage, refinances a home, or buys real property during the tax year, they must contact the Treasurer`s Office at 775-328-2510 to request a duplicate bill, or we can be contacted via e-mail at: treasb2@washoecounty.usEffective April 1, 2009, we are no longer able to accept tax payments at the Office of the Washoe County Clerk at Incline Village. We are, however, able to offer online payment as an additional option. You may access this option by visiting our site at: https://etaxes.washoecounty.us
