			<description>As summer quickly approaches, the Washoe County Health District has joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Park Service (NPS) to emphasize the dangers of skin cancer and has provided simple steps you can take to protect yourself. The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention designated the Friday before Memorial Day, May 25, “Don’t Fry Day,” as a way to highlight sun safety. </description>

According to local health officials, Washoe County teen birth rates have been declining since 2006. Over the past five years, Washoe County’s teen birth rates among the 15-19 year old females, continued to be approximately 3 points lower than Nevada’s teen birth rate for this same population. </description>

The final approved County balanced budget requires no lay-offs through 6/30/13, eliminates 51 vacant Full Time Employee (FTE) positions and calls for $6.3 million in departmental operating reductions, while providing a budgeted ending fund balance that is, at 8 percent, twice what is required by statute, and no tax rate increase.</description>

Earlier today the Washoe County Commissioners, acting as the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Districts, approved the final consolidated Fire Districts’ budget.</description>
