Featured 2Truckee Meadows Trails Guide: A new regional trails guide focusing on the Truckee Meadows vicinity is available in pdf format on our website. Just scroll down this page and click the link below. Reno, Sparks and Washoe County staff worked together to create this guide as a service to our residents and guests. Major funding came from a Federal Highway Administration Recreational Trails Program Grant, along with support from the RSCVA, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Scheels. Featured 3Turn old phone books into trees: Phone book recycling begins on November 16. If you drop off your old phone book at Bartley Ranch, Lazy 5, North Valleys or Rancho San Rafael Regional Parks, Sun Valley Community Park, or the South Valley Library, we'll get trees for our parks. AT&T and the Arbor Day Foundation will donate trees for parks based on how many phone books are dropped off between November 16 and December 31. Enter the Garden Court through a grotto filled with cascading waterfalls, exotic plants and Koi-filled pond. Here you find a magnificent setting for any special event. The museum’s Double Diamond and David’s Discovery rooms are available to rent in conjunction with the Garden Court for larger parties. Washoe County’s Wilbur D. May Center announces a Holiday Gingerbread House contest aimed at the creative side of every member of the family.

Nevada’s Native Americans bring culture exhibit to the Wilbur May Museum on Saturday, November 21
 
Listen to the traditional drum songs, see traditional crafts such as basket weaving and weapon making, hear traditional stories told in Native tongue, take part in traditional dances and witness the wonder of northern Nevada’s Native American culture during Trembling Leaves, a one-day interactive family exhibit from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21.

Highlights of the day include:

•Make your own Talking Stick decorated with beads and yarn of different colors to represent the sky, water, and earth with Tia Flores

•Bow-making demonstrations by Native American artist and weapon maker Burton Pete

•Basketry demonstrations by award-winning basket maker Norma Smokey

•Buckskin and duck decoy making demonstration by Wesley Dick

•Learn Native American drum songs, dance and languages, with Lois Kane

•Traditional Native American stories told in Paiute and English by Ralph Burns

•History of the Pyramid Lake Tribe with Ben Aleck

•Traditional dances performed by the Eagle Wing Dancers will perform at 1:00 p.m., exhibit guests will be invited to join the dancers

•Display of Native American artifacts and photographs from the Nevada State Museum and Nevada Historical Society

What: Trembling Leaves Native American Culture Day
