Two Convictions in Stalking Cases
WCDA Secures Guilty Verdicts

Two separate stalking trials have come back with convictions, following jury trials.  

The case against Carlos Norwood began in September of 2023, when officers with the Reno Police Department responded to a home on Belgrave Avenue following a report of an Extended Protection Order (EPO) violation. When officers arrived, Norwood was still on-scene. RPD later met with the victim, who had a copy of her protection order. She told police that Norwood had been walking in circles in a park across from her home for almost an hour before he just stood across the street from her home. The victim was able to take a photo of the defendant, which was shared during the trial. Norwood had a previous protection order violation arrest from earlier last year involving the same victim, where he pled guilty. Sentencing is set for January 30^th, with Norwood potentially facing 1-5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. 

A jury also returned a guilty verdict against Robert Mcguffey for Aggravated Stalking. Over a four-week period during November to December of 2022, Mcguffey sent numerous messages to his family members, threatening bodily harm and death.  The victims testified that they feared the defendant would kill them and their children. Some of those messages were presented as evidence during the trial, and included language where Mcguffey expressed his hopes that the family members would become ill or die and say things such as “still alive? All things come to an end… with my dying breath you will end, and all that you love, thus saith the Lord, Amen;” and "I will kill you and your offspring and everything you love." Sentencing is set for February 7^th with Mcguffey potentially facing 2-15 years in prison.
