A jury has found a Reno man guilty of Home Invasion, Residential Burglary, and Attempted Battery by Strangulation, following a trial.

50-year-old John Sullivan was arrested in April of 2022, after Reno Police responded to the area of Sky Valley Drive for a possible home invasion. When officers arrived on scene, they saw Sullivan attempting to drive away. After stopping the defendant’s car, they saw he was covered in blood.

While interviewing the victim, she told police that she and Sullivan had previously dated but were no longer together. When describing what had happened, the victim told officers that the defendant had repeatedly knocked on her door that evening, despite her asking him to leave. Sullivan then forced the door open, which swung and hit the woman in the face. He then began assaulting a male friend of the victim who was in the apartment, including choking the other man. The victims in the home, including the woman’s children, engaged in a physical altercation with Sullivan, to remove Sullivan from the scene.

Deputy District Attorney Rachael Chesterfield prosecuted on behalf of the State, while the Honorable Judge Tammy Riggs presided over the case. Sentencing is set for September 18.
