Reno, Nevada. Oct 26, 2016. Washoe County is hosting a public forum at the Reno Sparks Convention Center at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, to discuss the Public Lands Bill.

The Washoe County Public Lands Bill aims to address the following priorities:

  • Make certain federal lands surrounding the greater Reno-Sparks area are available for future economic development opportunities.
  • Expanding recreational opportunities in Washoe County by providing land for parks, trails and open space.
  • Creating opportunities for local jurisdictions to acquire federal lands to support their varied needs.
  • Designating new wilderness areas in the northern portion of the county and providing funding for habitat restoration and other conservation efforts county-wide.

Where: Reno Sparks Convention Center room located at 4590 S Virginia St, Reno, Mt. Rose Ballroom

When:  Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Washoe County Community Services Department published two maps of proposed areas that Washoe County is requesting be transferred out of federal ownership for economic development, conservation and other civic purposes. Mapping includes requests from the local jurisdictions and public stakeholders. Commissioners approved the draft mapping of the areas that may be impacted by the transfer of land.
