Reno, Nevada. May 25, 2016. Truckee Meadows Fire will be conducting a wildland drill with Washoe County Sheriff’s Office RAVEN in West Washoe Valley on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Truckee Meadows Fire, in collaboration with Washoe County Sheriff’s RAVEN, will be conducting an annual wildland drill on Thursday morning in West Washoe Valley. The drill provides local agencies with the opportunity to train together in preparation for the wildland fire season.
“Public agencies frequently work together to provide fire suppression. The ability to call RAVEN in to assist us in mitigating incidents is vital to the public’s safety,” said Chief Charles Moore. “RAVEN provides a quick response to remote locations that would be slow or impossible to access otherwise.” RAVEN will conduct water drops on a simulated fire during the exercise.
Chief Moore reminds residents that you can help to be a part of the solution by creating defensible space around your home. The wet winter has resulted in an upsurge in vegetation in the region, which increases the threat of a wildfire as conditions dry out in the summer months.
