Reno City Council and TMFPD Board of Fire Commissioners each approve fire services lawsuit settlement
Both parties agree to abide by terms of the Interlocal Agreement

Reno, Nevada. January 27, 2016. — The Reno City Council and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District’s (TMFPD) Board of Fire Commissioners have each approved an agreement to settle the lawsuit between the City of Reno and TMFPD Board of Fire Commissioners regarding fire services.

The agreement does the following:

• TMFPD will pay the worker’s compensation amount due under the Interlocal Agreement in the amount of $408,917, plus interest in the amount of $38,612, to the City of Reno.
• City of Reno has agreed to dismiss claims seeking indirect costs for the following years: 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12.
• TMFPD has agreed to dismiss counterclaims seeking reimbursement for damaged property and equipment.

“I am pleased that we were able to work together and come to an agreement,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said. “The settlement of this lawsuit allows us to lay a solid foundation on which we can continue to provide excellent and responsive emergency services to our citizens and focus on regionalization.”

“Today is a new day for the City of Reno and Washoe County, ushering us into a new era of working together,” Board of Fire Commissioners Chair Kitty Jung said. “Putting this lawsuit behind us allows both parties to work collaboratively this year and well into the future. Whether it’s the City of Reno or Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, we all have a common goal: to do what’s best for the citizens and make our community proud of the people they elected. We will work hard to make that happen.”

The TMFPD Board of Fire Commissioners approved a settlement of the lawsuit between TMFPD and the City of Reno yesterday during its Tuesday, January 26, 2016 meeting. The Reno City Council approved a settlement earlier today during its regular Wednesday, January 27, 2016 meeting.
