Board proclaims June 2015 as Lake Tahoe Wildfire Awareness Month. The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed June 2015 as LakeTahoe Wildfire Awareness Month. This year’s theme “Improve Your Odds – Prepare for Wildfire” is a means for education and a call for residents of Washoe County to take action to reduce the wildfire threat to their homes and help their community move toward becoming a fire adapted community.
“Wildfire and fire of any kind is very dangerous and we appreciate the County getting this message out to make sure citizens are prepared for this fire season,” said North Lake Tahoe Fire Department Chief Mike Brown.
The Board also proclaimed the following:
- May 15, 2015 as Peace Officers Memorial Day;
- May 10-16, 2015 as Police Week;
- May 17-23, 2015 as Emergency Medical Services Week;
- May 17-23, 2015 as National Public Works Week;
- May 19, 2015 as National Service Recognition Day;
- May 31, 2015 as Spanish Springs Library Day; and
- June 2015 is recognized as Nevada Amateur Radio Month.
The Board accepted more than $29,000 in donations on behalf of Washoe County Regional Animal Services for humane care and treatment of sick, injured, stray or abandoned animals and for Regional Parks and Open Space programs.
