Celebrating Older Americans Month 2015: “Get into the Act”

Reno, Nevada. April 29, 2015. You are invited to the annual celebration of Older Americans Month. This year’s theme is “Get into the act.” Opening Ceremonies will be held at the Washoe County Senior Services Center Friday, May 1, at 10 a.m.

 Washoe County Senior Services is teaming up with the cities of Sparks and Reno, Incline Village Parks and Recreation, and Sun Valley General Improvement District to host more than 90 events for seniors throughout May.

“There are more than 90 events this year, an increase of 50% over 2014. Not only is there more going on, there are more locations and more sponsors. This will be our most exciting Older Americans Month ever,” said Washoe County Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton. “This is a perfect time to learn about the breadth of resources for seniors, families and their caregivers.”

WHEN: Friday, May 1, at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Washoe County Senior Services Center, 1155 E. Ninth St., Reno

New events included this year:

  • Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation Nature Walks
  • Alzheimer’s Association Healthy Habits for a Healthier You
  • Historic Reno Preservation Society Walking Tour
  • Classes to learn about the legislative process

Additional events of note:

  • Sparks Ice Cream Social
  • Bike Week Mayoral Challenge
  • Nevada Museum of Art
  • Reno Aces Game
