Improve Public Safety, Security and Health
In response to community requests to reduce speeding in the area of Pyramid Highway and Goldenview Drive at Spring Creek, speed humps have been installed by the County. A subsequent traffic study verified a noticeable reduction in speeding and safer conditions for that neighborhood.
The International Association of Emergency Managers Annual Conference is being held this week at the Silver Legacy, with key local sponsorship from Washoe County.
Preserve and Enhance Our Quality of Life
Construction is now underway for the Swan Lake Interpretive Center. Work should be completed, and the Center available for school groups and other visitors, in early 2008. Coincidentally, this years first swan sighting at Swan Lake was this past week as well.
Improve Regional Collaboration
County Business License staff met with their Reno and Sparks counterparts on November 8 to enhance regional coordination in the first of planned quarterly meetings.
On Friday, November 9th, the newly formed Interim Western Regional Water Commission held a workshop with the existing Regional Water Planning Commission (RWPC) regarding the RWPCs current and past projects and accomplishments. These include the adopted Regional Water Plan and the timing and process for updating the Plan, water conservation projects and policies, facilities and infrastructure planning, and a review of the funding and staff provided by the Regional Water Management Fund and Washoe Countys General Fund.
Improve Government Efficiency and Financial Stability
The Washoe County Sheriffs Office is implementing advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to enhance crime analysis and improve coordination of information using twelve new spatial analysis software licenses.
Provide Excellent Public Services
Washoe County Community Relations has received three first place awards in the national City and County Communication and Market Association SAVVY Awards competition for the Washoe Trails television show, the 2006 election public service announcements featuring UNR athletes, and the Countys electronic employee newsletter. A third place award was won for the Countys electronic legislative tracking system, which is available on the web during Legislative Sessions.
