Snow Removal
With the series of storms that have hit Washoe County in the last couple weeks, our snow plows and operators have been busy. Even with 17 less positions this year and a very limited overtime budget, our roads crew have done a great job of clearing all the priority one roads (arterial and collector streets along with school routes and bus routes) within 24 hours of the first big storm, followed by the priority two and three roads. Sustained cold temperatures have made clearing packed ice off the roads difficult, but with the warmer temperatures we have made significant progress. To view the County`s snow and ice control plan and snow plow route maps for both the region and the unincorporated part of the county, visit our website at www.washoecounty.us/gis To report any road safety concerns, please call 328-2180.

National Energy Award
Washoe County has won the national Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign to promote energy conservation thanks to our citizens who answered our call to pledge on-line to make at least one energy conservation measure, such as changing to more efficient lightbulbs in their homes. In addition to the prestigious title, a $5,000 cash prize courtesy of Wal-Mart will be awarded which the County will use to make energy conservation changes in our facilities.

County Commission Sets Goals for 2010
Washoe County Commissioners established six preliminary goals to work on during 2010 during a recent half-day retreat. They are: create a sustainable organizational structure, implement fire services master plan, identify additional shared services opportunities, manage solid waste (including illegal dumping), enhance efficient reclaimed water use, and finalize separate master planning and zoning processes (aka, two-map system). The Board will further discuss these goals in late January and will make any revisions or additions to them at that time.
