Improve Public Safety, Security and Health
Work on Sheriff`s Office Northern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center Completed
Thanks to a Homeland Security Grant, the Northern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center, led by the Washoe County Sheriff`s Office, will soon be fully operational. This regional center will collect, integrate, and analyze all relevant information and provide comprehensive and timely reporting to federal, state and local authorities.

Preserve and Enhance Our Quality of Life
Hawken Fire Restoration
A partnership among Washoe County, the Nevada Land Conservancy, Sierra Fire Protection District and volunteers launched a critical aerial re-seeding project on Monday, February 4th, to begin restoration of the area burned in last July`s Hawken fire that consumed 2,700 acres of forested land. The re-seeding must be done when snow is on the ground to ensure proper germination of the native vegetation. Work on restoration of the watershed began while the fire was still burning. Tree planting in the area is scheduled for this spring.

Improve Regional Collaboration
Innovative Redevelopment Project Under Review in Tahoe Basin
Washoe County`s Community Development Department is coordinating with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Incline Village General Improvement District, and Placer County to evaluate a proposed mixed use redevelopment project in Crystal Bay known as Boulder Bay. One of nine proposed Community Enhancement Projects for the Tahoe Basin, the Boulder Bay project is intended to provide environmental restoration, aesthetic and scenic improvements, transportation improvements and affordable housing.

Provide Excellent Public Services
February is Fine-free at the Washoe County Libraries
As a way to say `thank you` to patrons for their patience and understanding during our transition to a new, more efficient and user-friendly information system, February is a fine-free month for materials checked out of the Washoe County Library System. In addition, beginning in March, library users under the age of 18 will no longer receive overdue fines as a way to encourage young people to use their libraries and return overdue materials.

Galena-Steamboat Community Fair Feb. 9th
Representatives from Washoe County Community Development, Water Resources, Emergency Management, Animal Services and others will be joined by officials from RTC, Regional Planning, Sierra Fire Protection District and more to answer residents` questions at a community fair, February 9th from 9 am to noon at the Galena High School.
