Unattended Children Policy
Libraries are great places to take your children, but remember, they are public places just like a grocery store or a park. The library wants your child to be safe. Library policy requires that parents be with their children age nine and under, at all times when visiting the library.

Patron Conduct Policy
To ensure that all patrons enjoy their library experience, here are some basic rules that address behavior while using the library.

Adult Patron Use of Youth Areas Policy
Youth areas are provided in many branches and sometimes have limited resources and staff. Adult use of these areas may be restricted.

Child Support Enforcement Program
This program assures that assistance in obtaining support, including financial and medical, is available to children through locating parents, establishing paternity, establishing support obligations, and monitoring and enforcing those obligations.

From basic needs to any health and human service program, one phone call to 2-1-1 offers access to physical and mental health services, volunteer opportunities and disaster recovery.

Family Resource Center
A safe, friendly place to go for help with basic needs such as food, clothing and rent, academic assistance, parenting classes, and information on local resources.

The Solace Tree
The Solace Tree is an organization of care giving professionals and volunteers committed to supporting grieving children and teens. Its purpose is to facilitate healing through grief and loss education.

Children get ready to read long before they start school. This is called early literacy and it means what children know about reading and writing before they can read and write. Researchers have identified 6 important pre-reading skills that children need to know before they learn to read - around the age of 6.

Accelerated Reader
Acclerated Reader is a reading program through the Washoe County School District. Each school purchases different quizzes and support materials for their program. Although Washoe County Library branches do not carry all of these school lists, we do have many of the books available for checkout. For complete information please contact your child's teacher. Art Boxes
ArtBoxes contain lesson plans with art ideas and related items such as costumes, videos, examples of projects and more. All art supplies are included! There are six ArtBoxes: Math Grade 3, Science Grade 6, History Grade 5, Social Studeies Grades 4-6, Language Arts Grades 1-2 and Creative Movement Grades K-3. To reserve your ArtBox, contact the Arts Education Coordinator at Sierra Arts at (775) 329-2787.

Free Internet
Free Internet access is available at all Washoe County libraries. A library card is not required to us the Internet. There is a charge for printing.

Spanish-Language Kinder Kits
Spanish-language Kinder Kits are themed kits that include books, videos, and various other materials such as puzzles and puppets that can be used to make literature come alive for young children. There are 21 kits on such subjects as Jungle, Self, Family, and Colors. Kits are available at any library by placing a hold through the Library Catalog on the kit of your choice.

Library Tours and Visits
Classes and small groups may call to schedule tours of their local library. We will introduce our services and procedures, explain about getting a lbirary card, read a story or two, and conduct a tour of the facility. Please call your local branch for more information.

The Nevada Registry
The Nevada Registry is an integral part of the pathway helping to establish a professional development system in Nevada for the field of Early Care and Education (ECE). The program strives to raise the status of our profession through support of professional growth and recognition, a standardized training approval system and the collection of valuable data on the ECE workforce.

Reading Programs
Washoe County libraries offer three year-round reading programs: Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall.  Reading programs help to encourage the love of reading and are open to all ages.
