  • Academic Search Premier - This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. Look here for popular or scholarly magazine articles on any topic. Subjects include art, education, health, computers, history, literature, psychology.
  • American Government - ABC-CLIO's database has feature stories about current events, information about the three branches of government, politics and foreign policy. Geared towards high school teachers and students.
  • American History - From the first explorers in the New World to the developments in today's headlines, this database investigates the people, events, and themes of our nation's evolution. Geared towards high school teachers and students.
  • Auto Repair Reference Center - Contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information for most vintage makes starting as far back as 1945. New repair procedures are added continuously.

  • CQ Researcher (use outside of the library requires special password, please contact your librarian) - Provides in-depth analysis of 'hot' issues in the news. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. New topics added weekly.   • Culturegrams - (outside the Library access OR inside Library) Reports on more than 200 countries, each U.S. state and all 13 Canadian provinces.  Includes history, culture and lifestyles of the world's people.

  • Discovering Collection - A wide-ranging collection that includes current news and radio items (for example, items from National Public Radio, Face the Nation and Meet the Press) as well as a variety of encyclopedias, this is an excellent resource for students needing general information or current events. It ranks its articles by reading level and includes primary sources as well as collections on cultures, geography, literature, science, and U.S. and world history.

Look here to do a search of our business, academic and health periodical articles as well as science, business and biographical information.
  • Educators Reference Complete - Educators Reference Complete is geared towards anyone interested in the field of education. It contains articles about all levels of education from preschool to college. It covers topics such as technology, health, bilingual education and poverty. This database provides full-text results for over half of the journals contained in the ERIC database.
  • ERIC - The Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals. Many references in this database are available in full-text in our Educators Reference Complete database!

  • Grolier Online - A comprehensive source of nonfiction content for grades 3 and up, Grolier Online provides access to two online encyclopdias.  The New Book of Knowledge features reference and current events information for elementary school and higher.  The Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia has quick reference with rich media for middle school and higher.

Set up a free account and use this from home or any computer. Look here for practice GED and occupational tests, including EMT and postal worker tests.  Use a library card number as Username and choose a password.

  • Mango Languages - An online language learning system that teaches conversational language skills for a wide variety of languages.  Mango Languages is funded by an LSTA grant from the Nevada State Library and Archives through the Institute of Museum and Library Services.  The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.  The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

  • MasterFILE Premier - (Multidisciplinary database provides full text for thousands of general reference articles covering virtually every subject area of general interest. Includes biographies of artists and historical figures.
  • Middle Search Plus - Provides full text for many popular magazines for middle school research. Includes biographies of artists and historical figures.

  • Nevada Career Information System - A resource for Nevada residents from the state Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation. Take career aptitude tests, read about education requirements for many careers and find lots of vocational information.
  • Newspaper Archive - (18th Century - 1 year ago) - (in-library use from Downtown Reno and Sparks branches only) - Contains tens of millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700s. Includes many, but not all, Reno newspapers from the 1870's through 1977 (use the browse feature to find available dates).  Look here for scanned copies of old articles. Great for genealogy research or looking up historical events.
  • Newspaper Source - Provides selected full text for 260 regional (U.S.), national (U.S.) and international newspapers. It also contains full text television & radio news transcripts.
