Security exercise part of a 14-month program offered by Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security
Washoe County hosted a community cyber security exercise on May 23, 2012 at the Circus Circus Reno Hotel & Casino. The day-long tabletop exercise included participants from federal, state and local government, as well as private sector partners. The exercise, a key event in a 14 month cyber security program offered at no cost to the community by the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS), is designed to raise awareness and encourage discussion on cyber and infrastructure security issues that affect all sectors of the community.

Governor Brian Sandoval kicked off the exercise by welcoming the participants and emphasizing his support for the cyber security program. Participants then began the process of working through 12 different types of cyber security events. Discussions focused on actionable items such as policy development, information sharing and collaboration.

This program is funded by a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant provided to the CIAS for the purpose of delivering community cyber security exercises and training. The CIAS is a non-profit security center attached to The University of Texas at San Antonio. For the past 10 years, CIAS has been conducting cyber security training and awareness exercises and events across the nation. CIAS offers a comprehensive training and education program to enhance a community’s awareness, understanding and ability to protect its critical infrastructures and services.
