Retiree Open Enrollment FY 12-13

The annual enrollment period takes place every spring and is your once a year opportunity to make changes to your current benefit elections for the coming year.  Open enrollment runs from May 7 – June 8 with a July 1, 2012 effective date.

During Open Enrollment, you may:

  • Change your health plan
  • Add/delete dependents
  • Enroll HMO dependents on the GAP Plan (current dependent GAP coverage will continue)

WHAT’S NEW FOR FY 2012/2013?

No Premium Rate Increases

On April 24, 2012, the Board of County Commissioners approved the Health Benefit program for FY 12/13.  Although rates increased by more than 3%, we are pleased to report that the County has elected to absorb these within the Health Benefits fund, which means retirees will not see any increase in their premium deductions in the ensuing year.

Plan Design Changes

On April 5, 2012, the Insurance Negotiating Committee voted to make only one change to the FY 12/13 plan designs.  Effective July 1, 2012, the orthodontia benefit will no longer be limited to dependent children through age 18.  All covered persons may now receive orthodontia services paid at 50% up to the $1,000 lifetime maximum.

Open Enrollment Meetings

A “drop-in” Open Enrollment meeting has been scheduled for retirees and will be held at the Washoe County Administration Complex at 1001 East Ninth Street in the BCC Chambers.

Representatives from Hometown Health (HMO Plan), CDS (self-funded PPO plan), American Fidelity (GAP) and Catalyst Rx (prescription benefits) will be available to answer questions and provide information on their plans.  There will also be a brief presentation by Senior Care Plus at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to explain how Medicare Advantage Plans work and interact with Medicare.

  • Thursday, May 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Retiree)

Additional Senior Care Plus Meetings

In FY 10/11, Washoe County added a third plan option for its retirees.  The Medicare Advantage Plan, offered through Senior Care Plus, continues to be a great option for those retirees who are receiving only a partial premium benefit from Washoe County and who are covering dependents.  This is an HMO plan and is available to those retirees and their dependents who have both Medicare parts A and B. If you are 65 and over, or are turning 65, we strongly encourage you to attend one of two additional informational meetings on this County-sponsored Medicare Advantage Plan.  A representative will be on hand to address any questions you may have regarding Medicare, and can help you determine if this plan option might be a better fit for you.

These meetings will be held at the Washoe County Administration Complex at 1001 East Ninth Street in the Central Conference room next to Anibel’s Café:

  • Tuesday, May 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, May 30 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
