How will I get information about a public health emergency?
Some public health emergencies will be obvious events (e.g., an explosion) that you will likely hear about through the media...
Others won't be so apparent (e.g., a slowly developing disease outbreak).
Reliable news sources may be the best way to get information during a public health emergency - we will update the media regularly with important information for the public.

Local Emergency:
The Washoe County District Health Department will provide information to the public in 2 ways:
- Through the local media
- On our website - www.washoecounty.us/health/php
National Emergency:
Most likely, updates will come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 3 ways:
- Through the national media
- CDC website
- CDC Information hotline - 1-800-CDC-INFO
Finally, if we are concerned that our messages are not reaching the right people we may rely on our relationships with various community based organizations to pass on important information to the populations they serve.
