Washoe County H1N1 (Swine) Flu Update #75
Wednesday, May 26, 2010 - 4:25 p.m. (Update #75 in Spanish - PDF, 11.6 KB)

Beginning June 1, clients who wish to receive their free H1N1 vaccine at the Washoe County Health District will need to call the Health District’s immunization appointment line at (775) 328-2402 to schedule an appointment. The final walk-in vaccination clinic will operate from 8:00 AM until noon, and 1:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Friday, May 28.

Based on recent information from the CDC, it's possible that the United States could experience early 2009 H1N1 flu activity next season, before the seasonal flu vaccine is available. That’s why the Health District continues to promote the H1N1 vaccine for anyone who wants to protect themselves against this strain of flu prior to the release of next year's flu vaccine.

Planning to travel this summer?

Getting vaccinated against H1N1 at this time might be especially important for people who are traveling to areas where H1N1 is still occurring, and/or for people who are at higher risk of flu-related complications, but have not yet received the H1N1 vaccine.

People at higher risk from flu complications include young children, people 65 years and older, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart disease or neurologic disease.

Appointments are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. To schedule an appointment, please call the clinic (775) 328-2402 one business day in advance of your desired appointment.

For more information, please contact Betsy Hambleton, APR, at (775) 328-6111.
