Mission:

PHNs support families to enhance physical, emotional, mental and social functioning through:

  • Assessments of individuals, families and their environment in clinical and community setting
  • Education and counseling to promote health and wellness
  • Communicable disease intervention
  • Referrals to community resources

PHNs support a safe and healthy environment through public and private partnerships.

Goals:

The primary goals of the District Health Department's home visiting program are prevention of child abuse and neglect, prevention of poor birth outcomes, and promotion of optimal child health and development. This is accomplished during home visitation when nurses provide education, support and referrals to community resources. In addition, the public health nurse promotes physical, intellectual, and socio-emotional development in infants and children.

If you live in Washoe County and are pregnant or parenting, you may qualify for services.
