General Public
The Home Visitation Program is a service provided by the Public Health Nurses (PHN) through Washoe County's District Health Department. In the Home Visitation Program, PHN's are specially trained to access your family's unique needs and to offer information and support.
A Public Health Nurse is a registered Nurse (RN). This is a FREE service for you and your family. They meet with you in your home at your convenience.
PHNs can help your family with a variety of topics and issues including:

- Bringing your baby home
- Your child's growth and development
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Special healthcare needs
- Family health
- Tips for healthy living

- Guidance toward a healthy pregnancy
- Weight management during pregnancy
- Fetal development
- Signs and symptoms of labor, including pre-term labor
- What expect during labor and delivery / videos to view
- Preparing for your baby
- Postpartum
- Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding
- Weight checks for your baby
- Basic infant care
- When to call your doctor
- Regular check-ups and immunizations
- How to help your baby sleep through the night
Your child's growth and development
- What to expect as your child grows

Services provided by PHN`s in the Home Visitation Program are absolutely free! The PHN meets with the client at the clients convenience and the client decides how long they want to work with the PHN.
Any parent who is pregnant or parenting and assessed to be in need to public health nursing visits may be referred for services.
