STATE BAR OF NEVADA RECOGNIZES JEREMY BOSLER'S CONTRIBUTIONS
The State Bar of Nevada honored Jeremy Bosler's continuing efforts on behalf of our clients and our office on June 11, 2009 at the opening of the annual meeting.

Part of the presentation included the following:
Based in part upon his consistent dedication to criminal defense (it is the only legal work he has ever chosen to do), he was selected Washoe County Public Defender in 2005.  He immediately addressed himself to improving services to indigents throughout Washoe County.  He views the defense of the indigent accused as a community issue, not merely a criminal justice issue.
The office expanded its programs to assist police in dealing with the mentally ill, by helping train police officers.  Jeremy worked with the Washoe County Commission to facilitate the creation of the Alternate Public Defender's Office.  Creating the office was a necessity in Washoe County but its creation took several experienced deputies from the PD Office.  Jeremy moved forward, recruiting terrific new attorneys, and commencing a more formalized training program to prepare them.  He expanded the use of interns, both law and social work students, to provide essential research and mitigation backup for the lawyers.
Jeremy next addressed himself to the problem of indigent defense statewide.  As a member of the Indigent Defense Commission he was instrumental in the adoption of Supreme Court Rule ADTK 411, which sets performance standards for indigent defense.  The adoption of the rule will benefit any person accused of a crime, because it explains what practices are minimally acceptable.  But, it was not an easy decision to make, because he knew his staff had too many cases to be found fully compliant.  Despite this, knowing what the Constitution expects, and what he expects, he participated in the creation of the rule.
Jeremy has been a strong advocate for clients of the Public Defender's Office in Reno, and throughout the State of Nevada. However, his advocacy does not stop there.  He is a strong voice on behalf of his staff.  Using the Supreme Court Order regarding performance standards, he worked with the County and other members of the Indigent Defense Commission to obtain a caseload analysis to demonstrate his staff's diligence, and the ongoing need for more help.
In the current budget challenge Jeremy has continued a policy of openness, describing the fiscal issues clearly.  He asks for suggestions from all staff members on all issues facing the office, with the current financial situation one of the most compelling examples.  Jeremy's leadership style is quiet.  He does not tell people what to do.  He shows them.
