**The Washoe County Regional Open Space Program was awarded the 2009 County Planning Award on April 27, 2009 by the National Association of County Planners.**

Washoe County underwent an approximately 18-month planning process that resulted in an update to the Regional Open Space Plan and added a Natural Resource Management component to the plan in 2008.  Staff from Washoe County Department of Community Development and the Regional Parks and Open Space Department led the process.
