Washoe County Clerk's Office
The Washoe County Clerk's Office serves the general public. All of the services provided by the Clerk's Office are mandated by the Nevada Revised Statutes and the Nevada Constitution.
The Washoe County Clerk is responsible for Fictitious Firm Name filings, issuance of oaths to Notary Publics and the filing of Notary bonds.
One of the main responsibilities of the Clerk's Office is the issuance of marriage licenses. The licensing of all ministers who perform marriages in Washoe County is a little known responsibility of the Clerk's Office.
The Clerk is also responsible for preparing accurate and timely minutes of various County boards as specified by the Nevada Revised Statutes.
Additionally, the Clerk's Office is responsible for the publication of the Washoe County Code.
All records created by or filed with the Clerk's Office must be preserved and maintained for permanent retention on microfilm. These documents are certified under the hand and seal of the Washoe County Clerk. Researching and supplying copies of all records on file is another duty of the Clerk's Office.
The County Clerk must also be actively involved in any pending legislative action that will adversely affect the office and participate in the legislative process to defeat or defer bills being proposed as new mandates on the Clerk's Office.
Over a half million dollars in fees are collected annually by the Clerk's Office. Monthly, as well as quarterly, revenue reports are required of the Clerk.
