The Board of Adjustment reviews applications relating to land use matters as received by the Community Services Department's Planning and Development Division. These requests include applications for administrative permits, special use permits, variances and appeals of administrative decisions.
The Board of Adjustment is comprised of five members, one member from each of the County Commission Districts and appointed by the County Commission. Appointment terms are four year and members may serve two full terms. Applicants must be a resident of unincorporated Washoe County and a registered voter in Washoe County.
The Board meets the first Thursday of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December) at 1:30 p.m. in the County Commission Chambers. Meetings average two to three hours in duration with additional preparation time (which may include site-visits) averaging one to three hours.
The Board of Adjustment is authorized by Nevada Revised Statutes 278.270 and provided for in Washoe County Code Section 110.912.10. Members are eligible for an $80 per meeting stipend.

The current vacancy is for a person residing within District 3 for a term that will expire June 30, 2017. Current policies provide that, should an applicant from District 3 not be available, recruitment may be extended to include the Commission District from which the next vacancy will occur. In this instance, that would be District 2.
