Selected Profile
Profile: Kitty Jung
24 1
Commissioner Kitty Jung was appointed to the Washoe County Commission on August 29, 2007 by Governor Gibbons. Following her appointment, Jung has been re-elected twice by her constituents. She represents District 3 which includes downtown Reno, West Sparks, Panther Valley, Golden Valley, the south end of Sun Valley and Raleigh Heights.

Jung earned her Master’s degree in psychology from Humboldt State University and has extensive community service and public relations experience. She arrived in the Truckee Meadows to serve as a lecturer in the Liberal Arts and Public Service Department for Truckee Meadows Community College where she earned a nomination for Teacher of the Year both years of her employ. She was also the business and community liaison for Sierra Nevada Job Corps, and most recently, served as a community liaison for the City of Reno.

As a Washoe County Commissioner, Jung considers public safety to be her number one priority. She is committed to ensuring that law enforcement and other public safety agencies have access to the resources they need to serve and protect our community. She also believes that responsible and sustainable development (economic, social, and environmental sustainability) is crucial in order to maintain and improve our quality of life here in Washoe County.

Particularly close to Jung's heart is the Nevada Humane Society, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Washoe County Regional Animal Services. As both a pet owner and a foster care parent for homeless animals, Kitty believes that caring for our community’s pets ensures a quality of life and dignity to all helpless in our community.

Commissioner Jung is committed to reducing Washoe County’s carbon footprint and has directed staff to develop a regional green team partnering with the Cities of Reno and Sparks and the Washoe County School District. She created new policy forbidding tax dollars to be used to purchase bottled water due to the excessive petroleum required and as an acknowledgement of the quality of water enjoyed in the Truckee Meadows. In addition, Jung, along with her husband, has pledged to actively reduce green house gas emissions by going meatless on Mondays.

Jung lives in Old Northwest Reno with her husband Scott and her “children” rescue animals Leila (dog), Neo, Trinity and Mimi (cats). They also have koi named Bruce, Israel and Ethereal.
